The Friends of Howell Living History Farm is a non-profit, 501(c) (3) organization whose mission is to lend support and assistance to the Mercer County Park Commission in its operation of the farm as a public park and educational facility.
In keeping with this mission, the Friends offer the farm program support, funding for research and restoration projects, and extensive volunteer services. The Friends also provide the farm staff and the Park Commission expertise in areas of preservation planning, collections care, grant acquisitions and agriculture.
Through its fall corn maze, held annually since 1997, the Friends have raised more than $500,000 to help preserve and restore the farm’s historic structures and archaeological sites.
The Friends provide over $50,000 annually in support of the farm's educational programs for schools, community groups and the public.
With material and volunteer support from the Friends, Howell Farm plows city gardens, grows crops for local food banks and participates in cultural events such as the New Jersey History Fair.
Each year, volunteers contribute more than 15,000 hours to the farm through programs managed by the Friends, with opportunities to join in.
Since the farm’s opening in 1984, the Friends have provided funding for the farm’s internships in sustainable agriculture, museum education and historic site management.
