Virtual | Wheat Harvest and Planting

Grades K–8: Do you know what it takes to get a plateful of pancakes, dripping with maple syrup, for your morning breakfast? At Howell Farm, we work hard to grow this crop, so that we can use it to make lots of tasty things throughout the year. Summer is harvest season for wheat, so you’ll get to virtually watch us bring in the harvest, with the help of our draft horses. We’ll talk about when wheat is planted, and how it goes from the field to the flour jar in your kitchen. On your own, impress your friends and family by whipping up a batch of pancakes!

Virtual field trips feature fun hands-on activities designed to get your students outside and exploring. Each program includes:

  • Pre-field trip warm-up questions or activities to get students thinking about the topic
  • 30-40 minute online lesson led by our naturalists, with engaging information and guidance to prepare the students for their hands-on activity
  • Hands-on activity for students to explore outdoors at their home or school
  • Post-field trip wrap-up questions to guide the teacher’s assessment
